Alan Watts, Iain McGilchrist, and Awakening, Part 4, Equating Attentions

Greetings, Friendlies.

Shall we play a little What If?

  1. What if Watts is correct that a mystic [awakened being] is one who has experienced a permanent perspective shift such that they now dwell “fully aware of … floodlight consciousness”?
  2. And what if McGilchrist (et al) is correct that focussed attention is the “view” of the left hemisphere and open attention is the “view” of the right hemisphere?
  3. And what if Watts’ spotlight and floodlight attentions equate to McGilchrist’s focussed and open attentions?

Hypothetically.

We could then say that Watts’ mystic, an awakened being, is one who has become fully aware of, who dwells in, McGilchrist’s Right Hemisphere “context”, Right Hemisphere “view”.

I mean… what if???

With friendliness!
