Learning in Public

Greetings, Friendlies!

I’d like to offer a framework for what it is I think I’m doing, and for what that might mean for you as a reader, how you might engage should you be interested in such engagement.

The Classical PhD holds one advantage over the Independent PhD: inherent in the structure one is in close proximity to peers and betters of one’s area of study. For an Independent PhD one must do a little extra work.

Barring inherent genius (no problem here), there seems to me no better way to improve one’s ideas/mind/being than by offering these up for review, critique, query.

These posts are precisely that. Learning in Public. The writing is not some conclusion I have come to, the writing is the learning process itself.

I am being explicit to invite you. Should you be so inspired, I would benefit profoundly from any feedback/input/etc you might offer. If ideas are not clear, or if they have been more thoroughly explored elsewhere, or if some glaringly unexamined premise makes the whole thing floppy, and if you have the bandwidth (because goodness knows most of us haven’t bandwidth for some poor slob and their floppy understanding), please say so. :)

The internet-as-agora may be one if its most beneficial manifestations.

With friendliness!
