Some recommended teachers, retreat centers, that sort of thing.
Teachers
Bodhi College teachers and programs, particularly John Peacock, Stephen Batchelor, and Marc Akincano Weber for modern, Secular Dhamma… my home sangha, I’d say.
Leigh Brasington and his website from the 80s. He teaches Jhānas and writes books and loves to tell stories.
I learned the TWIM technique (Metta and Jhānas) from assistant teachers of Bhante Vimalaramsi through online retreats from Dhammasukha.org. A modified version of TWIM is now my main daily practice.
Never had the pleasure of knowing Rob Burbea during his lifetime. But his legacy is profound. I found his Jhāna on Dharma Seed most efficacious.
Retreat Centers
I’ve visited lots of retreat centers. A few I’d recommend:
Zen Mountain Monastery, for an artistically oriented, modern-meets-ancient Mahayana experience. Near Woodstock, NY, USA.
Gaia House, Devon, UK.
Barre Center for Buddhist Studies, Barre, MA, USA.
Cloud Mountain Retreat Center, Seattle, WA, USA.
Meditation Center Beatenberg, Beatenberg, Switzerland.
Dāna
I’ve been asked about Dāna. The greatest thing you could do for me is spread the Dhamma! But if that’s not enough, I am most interested in Bodhi College‘s success as an organization; a donation to them would warm my heart. And, if _that’s_ not enough, there are a few books on the Dharma PhD Wishlist. :)
